Mr. Popper's Penguins, Richard & Florence Atwater

cover

Mr. Popper is a poor house painter who always dreams of faraway places and has strong interest in reading anything related to Arctic and Antarctic. He always wish to go there.

One day, he receives a package from his favourite explorer. Inside the package, it is a penguin. From that day onwards, he spends most of his time to keep the penguin (Captain Cook) to live comfortably in his house. In order to cure the penguin's sickness or depression, another penguin (Greta) arrives to the house to accompany Captain Cook. It ends up twelve penguins lives in the basement. How Mr. Popper and his family ensures all these penguins living comfortably in their house? How the Poppers get famous with the penguins? Why Mr. Popper has the chance to travel to Arctic for a year or two at the end of the story?

The book has a hilarious plot line. It is really fun to read such a funny story. I really enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of reading stories related to animals but this one is really good. At least it's not like other typical boring animal stories which always focus in teaching how to take care and love animals. It can be something different and it can be told in a more interesting or hilarious way. Maybe I haven't read a lot of newer children books but it seems classic children books often leave a lasting impression after reading them.
