The Troop, Nick Cutter

The Troop - Nick Cutter

A group of boy scouts and their scoutmaster spend their time in a deserted island for a three-day camping trip. Everyone is excited for the campfires, merit badges, and survival lessons until an unexpected stranger – shockingly thin, disturbingly pale, and voraciously hungry – appears at their campsite.

What will happen after the appearance of the unexpected stranger is not something that they ever expected in their life. In such a short time, this stranger will end up infecting the troop and expose them to an inexplicable horror that spreads faster than fear. A human carrier of a bioengineered nightmare. In an isolated island with no communication to the outside world, the troop is struggling and battle against each other for survival. And what the boys going to do to their scoutmaster in order to survive is shocking enough to keep readers to read what will happen next to the boy scouts.

This story is absolutely fits into horror genre although I never felt scared or thrilled when reading the book but I did have the gross and disgust feelings. For me, I feel horror stories should contain the gross and disgust elements to fit into that genre. Although I was struggling to finish the book but overall, the story is not bad. Probably it's just me that need time to adapt with the author's writing style which seems slightly difficult for me to grasp the meaning in an instant manner.
