In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad #1), Tana French
In a small Dublin suburb back in the summer of 1984, three children vanish in the woods. Mothers begin to call their children home but they do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they found only one of the children, Rob, gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall any detail of previous hours.
Twenty years later, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a twelve-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and his partner and closest friend, Detective Cassie Maddox, trying their best to investigate a case which has some similarities to the previous unsolved mystery. Does these two cases are related? Will Ryan able to continue hiding his own shadowy past and uncover both mystery case?
The further I read, the more depressed I felt for the characters in the story. I was struggling with the excessive atmospheric descriptions and tried my best to finish reading the book. Too many metaphors to digest while trying to follow the storyline. Actually, the story is not bad but I would prefer if the writing style is simpler and the over-detailed atmospheric descriptions are lesser. The funny part which I found from this book is the weather. It "rains" almost everyday, from the beginning to the ending of the story. Anyway, I plan to read the second book in this series and see how it goes.
