Reconstructing Amelia, Kimberly McCreight

When Kate Baron receives a phone call from the school about her smart and outstanding fifteen-year-old daughter, Amelia has been caught cheating, she is shocked. Kate rushes to the school but she faces a far more devastating news by the time she arrives at Grace Hall. Amelia is dead.

Amelia has jumped from the school's roof. According to the story given by the police and Grace Hall, the case classified as suicide. With her own guilt, Kate accepts it and believes the story until she gets the anonymous text:

She didn't jump.

That thought never comes to Kate's mind. Kate starts to investigate the cause of the death and sifts through Amelia's emails, text messages, social media postings and cell phone logs. She tracks down all the anonymous text messages, talks to Amelia's friends and determined to find the truth about why Amelia was on roof and why she died. Did she really committed suicide or someone killed her?

Reconstructing Amelia is a well-crafted story specifically about modern technology and new generation parents which leads us to a different view about social media on our lives. It's a story about secrets and lies, love and betrayal, trusted friends and vicious bullies. This will be a good book to raise awareness of cyberbully and the negative impacts if we use the social media in a wrong way. It's also a story of how well parents ever really knows about their children and wouldn't it be better if parents try to spend more time with their children or try to understand them before any unexpected things happen which will leave the parents in guilt for the rest of life.

In the meantime, a random thought came across my mind when I was reading this book. This story has been chosen to turn into a film and I wish Emma Roberts (from Scream Queens) will be Sylvia. She will be perfectly fit for that character. She was the first person came to my mind when I was reading the book about Sylvia.
