As the first volume (Food Wars!, Vol. 1: Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma #1) introduces the characters and the story of how Soma attends the Totsuki Saryo Culinary Institute, this second volume continues the story of Soma's life in the cooking school.
Soma moves into the Polaris Dormitory and gets to know more crazy and eccentric students who attends the same school as him. From his senior schoolmate, Isshiki, Soma finds out more about Totsuki's legendary cooking duels – a shokugeki. He knows that he needs to do more to prove to his father for his cooking skill. How shokugeki works and what will be the prize for the winner and what will happen to the loser? Who will Soma's first opponent and what will be the cost if he wins or loses in the competition?
The second volume is definitely much better than the first one. At least the second volume goes to another level and the story is getting more interesting. Although the second volume is just a simple story which can be summarised that the main focus is about Soma's life in the cooking school but the story is slightly improving compared to the previous volume.
