In the previous volume - Food Wars!, Vol. 4: Shokugeki no Soma (Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma #4), Soma needs to invent a new dish in a buffet style to be appeared on the high class Totsuki Resort's breakfast menu.
The first part of the volume continues with Soma needs to come out with an egg dish in a buffet style and also must serve more than 200 servings. Soma and his friends use the combined knowledge and confidence they've gained while at the cooking camp to individually pass the challenge. Although Soma able to finish his dish before the time runs out but he realises that nobody tries his dish. In such a critical time to fulfill the requirement to serve more than 200 servings, how Soma act according to the situation and changes the food in order to pass the challenge?
As for the second part of the volume, Soma returns to his home and finds out that the bento shop at the local shopping district is experiencing bad sales due to the existence of the famous fried chicken restaurant at the in-station stores. Together with Kurase (appears in the first volume as a high school student and also his regular customer) and Nikumi, they try their best to fight back to reclaim the former customers of the local shopping district.
The second part of the volume is about Soma's hometown which definitely something different and feel refresh after several volumes "trapped" in the institute. A few new characters introduced in this volume and a big surprise about Erina which brings the story to another different level.
